A TV is blank or showing the wrong content

Separate display and HDMI problems from pairing, publishing, and media problems.

Updated September 22, 2026

Start at the display

  1. Confirm the TV and Apple TV are powered on, and select the HDMI input carrying that Apple TV.
  2. If you use an HDMI matrix or receiver, verify its route. Better Signage does not switch those devices or prove their output is visible.
  3. Open Better Signage on the Apple TV. If the Apple TV home screen is also invisible, resolve the display, cable, receiver, or input problem first.

Check the content path

  • Pairing screen visible: pair that Apple TV with the correct account.
  • Previous playlist visible: verify that you used Play after editing and selected this TV. Check whether the new publish is downloading, blocked, or waiting for another TV.
  • Only one item is wrong: check its export, duration, and crop. Try a simple supported JPEG to distinguish a media issue from the rest of the path.
  • No sound: this is expected. Better Signage video playback is muted.
  • Edges missing: the default presentation fills the display. Prepare a 16:9 composition with critical information away from the edges.

Send useful diagnostics

Press Play/Pause on the Apple TV remote to show or hide the Better Signage status overlay. In this app, that button toggles diagnostics rather than pausing the playlist.

Record the screen name, what you expected, what is actually visible, the time, and any error. Do not share pairing codes, device credentials, or photos containing unrelated private information.
